PSAT/NMSQT

Why you should take the PSAT?

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is now digital! The test is easier to take, shorter, has more time per question, and comes with a built-in calculator. It can also qualify you for the National Merit Scholarship Program and other scholarships.

The PSAT is about two hours in length, consisting of two sections that are each ~1 hour, with a 10 minute break between them.

  • Reading: 2 Modules with one question per short reading passage.
  • Math: 2 Modules, and embedded Desmos calculator.

Testing Day

Information about test day locations, bell schedule, and displaced classes will be available by about September 24, 2025.

When: Wed, Oct. 1, 2025

Who: All 10th grade students are automatically registered for the PSAT, paid for by the district. 11th grade students can register and take it on this day for a small fee (see below for more info).

Where: Upper West classrooms, library, and possibly the Lego Gym. Testing and displaced class locations will be posted in hallways and below.

Before Test Day

All testers must complete two updates for their Chromebooks, both of which will occur during school in the weeks before test day.

The school-managed Chromebook devices have the Bluebook app loaded on them. You can access "Practice and Prepare" in Bluebook at any time to prepare for any digital College Board test. You will need to create a College Board account in order to do so.

10th grade students can be opted-out from taking the PSAT. Parents or guardians must complete and return this form to the testing office by September 15, 2025.

Test Day Logistics

  • Students must bring their charged, school-issued Chromebook and charger on test day.
  • We will follow a revised bell schedule.  Seniors with Early & Double Early Release take note of possibly later release times.
  • Snacks and water are not allowed at student desks while testing. You can bring them to consume during the break; your proctor will tell you where to place them in the room.
