CFISD artwork honored in congressional art contests

May 16, 2025—Two CFISD art students had their work selected as top five finalists in the District 8 and District 38 Congressional Art Contests, hosted by U.S. Representatives Morgan Luttrell and Wesley Hunt, respectively.

Langham Creek High School sophomore Denise Pepito placed first in the District 8 contest while and Cypress Woods High School senior Eleri Young placed third in the District 38 contest.

A reception was hosted by Rep. Hunt at the CFISD Visual and Performing Arts Center on May 1 where all winning artwork was on display. CFISD leadership, students and parents were invited to the celebration. 

"I am so proud of our students whose creativity was recognized in the Congressional Art Competition," said Lee Carrier, visual arts coordinator. "This national honor celebrates their voices and vision. Thank you to our art teachers for their encouragement and support along the way." 

Each spring, a nationwide high school arts competition is sponsored by members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The contests are an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent among high school students across the nation.
